Volunteer - Swim Instructor Aide

Volunteer Opportunity Description

 

Do you enjoy the water?  This may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you!  You will assist our swim instructors in providing group lessons following the YMCA of the USA Aquatics and Swim Lessons guidelines and standards. Y swim lessons are unique, in that they incorporate our values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.  As you assist our instructors, you will model your great service and safety skills, playing key role in a positive learning experience.

Responsibilities

  • You will assist the Y swim instructor with equipment preparation prior to swim lessons and storage following swim lessons
  • You will model your great customer service skills in greeting participants and parents
  • Monitor pool activities and games during lessons
  • Help with administrative tasks related to lessons
  • Safety is first; we will ask you to follow all procedures and policies of the department, branch and Association

Physical Demands

  • You will remain in the pool area at all times while volunteering
  • You must be able to support child or adult body weight in water
  • Must be able to be in the pool for one to four hours (water temperature ranges from 80-90 degrees)
  • Must be able to project voice across distance in normal and loud situations

Requirements

 
  • You will be at least 14 years old
  • We will ask you to demonstrate ability to swim in shallow and deep water, and to tread water (minnow level swimming ability)
  • Patience will help you in being able to communicate and assist individuals of all ages
