Volunteer - Youth in Government

Volunteer Opportunity Description


You can make a difference in the lives of young people by volunteering to work with youth in your community! You will help our staff team with programs, interacting with youth and helping us to ensure a positive, nurturing environment. You will be responsible for assisting in the following Youth in Government activities as determined by the delegation director or conference leadership team:  recruiting for local delegation(s), assisting in running delegation meetings, helping youth understand their role in our democracy as it pertains to their program assignment and advising and supervising youth at the program conference. This includes providing excellent customer service in a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes member and program participant safety and satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.


  • Assist delegation directors and program  staff in monitoring all youth in Youth in Government programs
  • Help with preparations for program which will include communication with youth and families, helping educate youth in their program area, and other duties as assigned by the delegation director or conference leadership team
  • Engage in activities set out for participants to keep youth interested
  • Follow all procedures and policies of Youth in Government and Association

Physical Demands

  • Must be physically capable of participating in and monitoring programs assigned to youth 


  • Minimum age:
    • Resource Advisors - 18 years
    • Adult Advisors – 21 years
  • Good communication skills and patience when working with youth and parents
  • Dedicated to member safety and the Y mission and philosophy
