Volunteer Opportunity Description


The School Success volunteer will be a mentor, role model, ally, and tutor for youth. You will promote positive growth with youth through relationships and the YMCA’s values (care, honesty, respect, and responsibility). Volunteer opportunities are at school based YMCA programs.

 Volunteer General Responsibilities: 

  • Support School Success staff in afterschool programs as needed.
  • Provide one on one tutoring to youth ages 5-18.
  • Work with program staff in set up and cleanup of activities.
  • Engage and support participants throughout program time.
  • Demonstrate leadership and team work with other volunteers, participants, and staff.

 Additional Notes:  

This volunteer opportunity represents the primary needs identified at this time but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The volunteer will also be responsible for taking direction from the Program Director, Branch Executive or other designated YMCA team member.


  • Minimum age of 16
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and dependable
  • Good communication and mediations skills and patience when working with youth and parents

  • Completion of online New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)
