Title: Beacons STEM Program Volunteer                             

Date: August 2017


    Volunteer Summary:

 You can make a difference in the lives of young people by volunteering to work with youth in your community.  The Beacons STEM Program volunteer will interact with youth in after school programs and ensure a positive, nurturing environment.  You will promote growth with youth through relationships and the YMCA’s values (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility).

    Volunteer General Responsibilities:

  • Support program staff in program activities providing a safe and enjoyable experience to participants.
  • Participate in training necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Assist program staff in monitoring all youth in after school program.
  • Work with program staff to prepare for after school activities.
  • Engage and support participants in STEM activities to keep youth interested.



     Volunteer Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Interested in working with diverse youth
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and dependable
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other volunteers and Beacons program staff
  • Volunteer application
  • Face-to-face interview
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Reference Check
  • Signed Code of Conduct
  • Completion of online New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)


     Physical Demands:

 Must be physically capable of participating in and monitoring programs assigned to youth.

 This volunteer opportunity represents the primary needs identified at this time but is not intended to be all-inclusive. The volunteer will also be responsible for taking direction from the Program Director, Branch Executive or other designated YMCA team member.
