Volunteer Opportunity Description


Volunteer Summary:


Host Families are caring volunteers that are willing to open their homes temporarily to international staff (age range 18-23).


This volunteer opportunity connects international staff with a caring Host Family who is willing and able to provide a welcoming, supportive, and safe homestay. The Host Family will provide basic housing needs to international staff including bedroom, meals, and occasional transportation.




Volunteer General Responsibilities:


  • Create a welcoming, supportive and safe homestay experience
  • Willingness to learn about different countries and culture
  • Provide a bedroom
  • Provide meals
  • Host Family is encouraged to:
    • Provide occasional transportation for international staff to appointments, work, etc.
    • Provide international staff with access to a computer and/or the internet or a TV

Volunteer Qualifications/Requirements:



  • Ability to provide a homestay for a minimum of one to three months (June-August)
  • Provide proof of renter’s/homeowner’s insurance
  • Complete online volunteer application
  • Face-to-face interview
  • Pass a Criminal Background Check (required for all household members ages 16 and older)
  • Reference Checks
  • Signed Code of Conduct and Wavier of Liability
  • Completion of online New Volunteer Orientation (NVO)
  • Share the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility
