Assistant Operations Manager

Job Description


GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Assistant Operations Manager (AOM) oversees several aspects of the on-site operations department, including manpower coverage, security, financial accountability and inventory control.  The AOM must be ready to stand in for the Operations Manager at any time.

Primary Responsibilities:
•Supervise the Operations Assistants
- Schedule Visiting Park cash collections, rotating resources to ensure maximum security
- Conduct quarterly Visiting Park cash collection training
- Perform bank audits—random verification of each collector’s cash balance
- Schedule relief work for on-site locations
• Serve as primary point of contact for Regional Commissary Managers
- Resolve operational matters and escalate issues to the Operations Manager when appropriate
- Address inventory shortages
• Manage start-up process for new on-site customers
- Coordinate equipment and manpower
• Monitor Inventory Control
- Address spoilage issues
- Work with Regional Commissary Managers to decrease donated & discarded merchandise
• Coordinate Inmate Grievance response process and train Regional Commissary Managers on appropriate responses
• Complete miscellaneous duties as assigned by manager

Secondary Responsibilities:
• Foster customer service & build relationships with wardens at all facilities
• Address compliance issues
• Compile and distribute weekly Coverage Report to all on-site staff
• Review employees’ expense reimbursements to ensure BBPG compliance

This position has non-supervisory direct reports.



 EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Valid driver’s license

• Available for overnight travel on a regular basis
• Must pass Criminal, Credit, Motor Vehicle Record, and Drug checks
