The Platform Systems Engineer (PSE) is responsible for technical leadership within infrastructure services around designing, engineering, and supporting a complex heterogeneous technology environment. This role requires advanced knowledge of hypervisors, operating systems, enterprise storage services, and data protection solutions. The PSE role involves managing and configuring services to operate within a diverse environment of software and hardware vendors within hybrid architecture of on premise and cloud hosted solutions. The PSE is also expected to contribute and provide influence to the strategy, planning, developing, testing and optimizing of the related infrastructure components. 


Additional responsibilities include, leading projects, mentoring other team members, and providing support by assisting in resolving hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion, in addition to delivering end user training where required.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Works with both internal and external customers to understand business requirements and needs.
  • Designs maintainable solutions to meet business and compliance requirements through creation and application of best practices to ensure consistency, maintainability and compliance.
  • Participates in 24x7 on call rotations.
  • Deploys new solutions and configurations.
  • Performs administration, monitoring and support of data protection services for heterogeneous computing platforms and systems
  • Maintains and manages technical relationships with vendors.
  • Accountable for daily operations and performance of the company’s x86 and enterprise storage based platforms.
  • Provides support/troubleshooting of performance and availability issues impacting the Wintel, VMware, Citrix, storage, and data protection services.
  • Maintain servers in accordance with documented security standards
  • Performs administration, and monitoring of assigned enterprise servers.
  • Administer Operating System(s) and Software installations within the Citrix Farm(s)
  • Manage Active Directory infrastructure for the Enterprise by leading the design, implementation and support of a highly available multi-domain directory infrastructure platform.
  • Engineer, assess, and review current and future directory architecture solutions, 3rd party directory management tools/applications and implement life cycle maintenance processes.
  • Provide technical and project leadership across a diverse team
  • Ensures service availability through creation and delivery of KPI reports.
  • Provide capacity planning, best practices and performance monitoring to sustain and improve platform availability and efficiency.
  • Coordinate service/support needs with Vendors, Technical Support Engineers, Application Support Engineers, and the Infrastructure Team through effective partnership, collaboration and communication.
  • Provide 3rd level support for tools including Active Directory, Citrix, VMware and Kaspersky for end users, application and administration teams.
  • Conducts and documents performance tuning, problem resolution, server security administration, capacity planning, policy administration, change management, disaster recovery, and systems analysis.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent knowledge and experience in a related field
  • Minimum of  10 years of experience working in an enterprise IT environment
  • Retail Experience is preferred.
  • Experience with System Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in administering and supporting enterprise data protection platforms such as Commvault, TSM (IBM Spectrum Protect), Netbackup, etc…
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and supporting Microsoft, VMware, and Citrix technologies and their various components
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with VMware vSphere, ESX, and virtualization concepts
  • Experience with Windows Server OS, with strong experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, account management, groups and shares
  • Knowledge of Citrix Infrastructure components
  • Experience with Citrix products such as Citrix Secure Gateway (CSG), NetScaler/AGEE, Provisioning Server,  XenDesktop, or XenApp
  • Certifications in VMware a plus
  • Certifications in MS Server a plus
  • Citrix Certified Administrator (CCA) or Citrix Certified Enterprise Administrator (CCEA) a plus
  • Storage services certifications are a plus (EMC, NetApp, Hitachi, Cisco, etc…)
  • Advanced understanding of IT components including servers, networking, storage, x86 hardware, and databases
  • Advanced understanding of storage technologies such as block, file, and object storage; switching, backups and monitoring
  • Advanced understanding and experience with various data protection and archiving solutions
  • Working knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery architectures and processes
  • Solid understanding of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles, practices and processes in providing and managing the delivery of a large scale, enterprise-wide service. This includes incident management, problem management, change management, configuration management, and availability/continuity management.
  • Analytic and project skills with strong oral and written communication abilities
