AQUATICS - Swim Team Coach

Job Description

 

GENERAL FUNCTION

Provides competitive swimming instructions to swim team members in various age groups.  Organizes and conducts team workouts.  May supervise other coaches as assigned.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY

Organizes and administers all assigned coaching responsibilities, including daily practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling.  Develops positive relationships with team members and provides motivational support and guidance.  Increases team member awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors and YMCA values.  May supervise assistant coaches.  Recruits prospective members and provides information about YMCA membership and swim team fee structure.  Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.   Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures.  Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.  Attends swim meets and swim team functions as agreed upon with supervisor.  Accountable for discipline and conduct of team members at these events.   Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.  Assist with maintanence of pool chemicals/clarity to ensure safety of swimmers.  Order supplies needed for swim meets.

Requirements

 

KNOW-HOW

Incumbent should posses current lifeguard and/or YASA certifications, completed Competitive Swimming and Diving, as well as First Aid, CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.  One year or more coaching swim teams is required. Ability to teach proper competitive swimming techniques.  Staff supervision experience is preferred.   Ability to lead and motivate others.  Ability to make good decisions and exercise mature judgement. Demonstrated knowledge of sound competitive swimming skills, and the ability to implement and teach these skills in a positive, healthy manner. Ability to effectively communicate information on fitness, aquatics to members and participants.  Ability to communicate effectively with members.
