Position Overview          

The Marketing Designer, Entrepreneurial Businesses is responsible for driving financial success via strategically planned marketing campaigns and by designing and producing the creative materials to support these campaigns with a brand aesthetic that is contextual to the channel and audiences. This position is the driving force behind clear messaging to the consumer and improving the customer experience within the businesses. This individual must work closely with the Thrift Shop Administrative Team, the Bookstore Café team, the Marketing Team, and the Development Team to identify business opportunities to grow entrepreneurial revenue and consumer loyalty. This individual will possess strong and effective communication skills, while always maintaining an approachable and friendly attitude. With a thorough understanding of marketing, this person should also have superior organizational skills, and an ability to adapt to changing circumstances and situations in a strategic and thoughtful manner.


•             Drive financial results that maximize sales and bottom line profitability by conceiving, developing, planning and executing creative campaigns that are in alignment with our brand image and strategic plans with the aim on improving the customer experience and building customer loyalty.

•             Assist in determining the Thrift Annual Promotional Calendar which will support guiding marketing efforts and priorities.

•             Design and produce creative materials (print, environmental & web) with a brand aesthetic that is contextual to the channel and audiences. Such materials include but are not limited to: postcards, posters, invitations, environmental graphics for shop windows and special events, web graphics for HW’s website and social media, and email newsletters. Help maintain content on company website, external media pages, social media, promotional and other marketing materials.

•             Ensure that all projects are completed on time, within budget and with the highest production standard available. Help manage the digital and physical archive of design projects by ensuring that all digital files are organized and have backed up documentation and secure print samples and file in accordance with the Marketing Department’s archival guidelines.

•             Identify key performance indicators and develop reports to measure the success and/or failure of marketing initiatives and build a database of results to help guide future decision making on concepts and types of marketing campaigns.

• Steward the Housing Works “brand;” uphold design standards, and manage expressions of the organization’s identity.

•             Work with Business Operations to ensure that all marketing messaging is timely and effectively executed.

•             Develop a strong working understanding of Housing Works project management systems including Salesforce and Basecamp, must be skilled at project management.

•             Source and coordinate vendors and suppliers, negotiating price and terms.

•             Ability to work with cross functional partners effectively, exhibiting both internal and external customer service skills.

•             Research and maintain knowledge of design trends and industry trends, with a commitment to self-learning and continuing education.

•             Other duties as directed by your supervisor, senior and executive leadership and Thrift Shop board members. Housing Works Ambassador

•             Participate in at least one direct action per quarter aimed at ending the twin crises of homelessness and HIV/AIDS.

•             Know the Housing Works’ Mission Statement and goals and be able to inform and discuss with others.

•             Must be highly competent and effective at promoting group harmony and mutual respect among individuals of every race, ethnic background, gender, age and sexual orientation.

Minimum Requirements


Educational Requirements         


•             Bachelor's Degree in Advertising, Graphic Design, Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field

•             2-4 years of relevant design and marketing experience; internships may be considered

•             A compelling and thoughtful portfolio, that illustrates depth and breadth of design skills

 •            Mastery of design-related software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Fluency in HTML and CSS, (Css3/HTML5 and Javascript a plus)

•             Results focused and uses performance targets and goals to drive activities, must be able to think objectively and interpret meaningful themes from quantitative and qualitative data

•             Must have the ability to create and execute a broad creative vision

•             Excellent verbal and written communications skills, able communicate effectively and concisely •                Superior organizational skills with strong attention to detail, must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with adherence to deadlines

•             Must be a strategic thinker with an analytical mind

•             Self-starting, self-motivating mindset, ability to work independently with little supervision

•             Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Google Analytics, Salesforce, Basecamp, Facebook ads, etc.
