We are looking for an experienced IBCLC certified Lactation Consultant to add to our team to work hours of 3pm-11pm

The Registered Nurse Lactation Consultant requires advanced understanding and ability to utilize the nursing process.

  • Provides expert care in lactation management according to the ILCA Standards of Practice for IBCLC Lactation Consultants.
  • Provides informal and formal staff development learning activities related to breastfeeding management. 
  • Practices according to the family-centered maternity care model. Works under general supervision.
  •  Functions as an expert resource on breastfeeding issues for patients, families, community, staff, and physicians.
  • Serves as a clinical expert for lactation issues based on evidence
  •  Produces documentation that initiates, follows and revises patient’s plan of care.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to improve care processes that promote continuity of care
  • Reviews patient medications for potential complications associated with breastfeeding.
  • Assesses outpatients for symptoms of jaundice and breastfeeding problems.
  •  Both inpatient and outpatient services – working with Maternal/Newborn and NICU patients

Demonstrates the ability to perform a concise nursing assessment and reassesses and documents the proposed revision of interventions and desired outcomes. Responsible to document all nursing care in all assigned patient records. Demonstrates ability to assess patient’s and/or significant other understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching. Maintains patient's privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times. Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff to changes in the patient status.

Minimum Requirements


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• RN – Current Registered Nurse licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire

• Associate’s degree in Nursing (A.D.N.) is required

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred

• Two (2) year experience as a clinical nurse (RN). Women's Services/Lactation RN experience from an acute care facility strongly preferred

• Current BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required upon hire

• Current NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days of hire

• Current IBCLC - International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners certification required


• A high degree of confidentiality, positive interpersonal skills, and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.

• Basic computer skills - computerized charting - use EPIC/Care Connect preferred

• Critical thinking skills.
