Description

 

Plan, coordinate and implement quality learning experiences and care for infants, toddlers, preschool and/or school age children. Create learning environments that are cognitively stimulating and foster children’s emotional, social, physical and cognitive growth utilizing developmentally appropriate practices and educational learning goals based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards, developed through classroom observation, and child and program assessments. Teachers are responsible for general supervision, classroom management and overall safety. In addition to comprehensive classroom responsibilities; teachers are responsible for reviewing important decisions with his/her Director/Manager while maintaining positive relationships with parents, children and co-workers. Teachers must follow all state licensing regulations and maintain annual continuing education requirements.

Minimum Requirements

 

Must meet one of the following:

  1. Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Care, a minimum of one year child development work experience in a school, kindergarten or licensed child care/family child care setting, and a Certificate from The Registry indicating qualifications as a Child Care Teacher, Level 12 or above. (One supervised student teaching practicum is equal to one year child development work experience.)
  2. Bachelor Degree in Education from an institution of higher education or a license from the WI Department of Public Instruction to act as a teacher, and a Certificate from The Registry indicating qualifications as a Child Care Teacher, Level 12 or above.
  3. Bachelor Degree in a related field with a Certificate from the Registry indicating the person is qualified as a Level 12 Child Care Teacher.

 

Required within first week:

  • Shaken Baby 
  • SIDS training
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Training

 

Required within first 3 months:

  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • AED training
  • Current Registry Certificate Level 12 or above
  • Infant Toddler Certification if working in Infant-Toddler Program

 

Required within first year:

  • Training in and experience with Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (Certificate)
  • Pyramid Model to Support Social Emotional Competence(Certificate)
