Under the supervision of the Director of Utilization & Authorization, the Assistant Director of Utilization & Authorization will assist the behavioral health administration in meeting contractual obligations of performance measures and services through authorization of proposed service plans that meet applicable standards.  Through participation in administrative functions, monitors and guides direct service providers toward increased quality and efficiency while serving the organizational mission and public health.  Responsibilities include authorizing TRR services under contract with HHSC; performs analysis of data sets, determines trends and generates reports advising projections for data driven management decisions; fulfills assignments for the BH Director upon request in the time-frame specified for each report; monitors assigned various contracted programs and components; reviews clinical override trends, data information and supports crisis services, including decisions regarding the use of state-funded hospital bed days; provides oversight and scheduling of clinician peer reviews, Episodes of Care activities and other clinician training as needed.  Position will lead, participate in, and support special projects as assigned.  Must be knowledgeable of community resources and have a working knowledge of psychotropic medications (uses and side effects). Must be able to interact verbally with consumers, family members, BH providers and the public in a clear and knowledgeable manner.  Must be able to utilize appropriate web-based applications and computer software to include all MS office applications in a skilled manner.

Position is classified as Exempt

Salary $29.68/hourly; $61,722/annually


Minimum Requirements


Requires a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a qualified human services field, such as counseling, psychology, social work or nursing with a valid Texas license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) or Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).  Also acceptable are those candidates with a Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD) or Medicine (MD) with a valid Texas license as a Psychologist or Medical Doctor.  Must have at least two years experience working with mental health populations.  Must have proficient computer skills, including Excel, MS Word and Outlook.  Must have experience utilizing and generating reports from an automated database.  Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record, as well as personal automobile liability insurance as required by the state of Texas.  If DL is out of state, must be able to obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days of employment.
