General Description of Duties:

Performs a professional service in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of SALUD patients ages 0 – 18 years.  This would include patients in the ambulatory setting as well as the corresponding hospital.  The Physician approaches her/her tasks in a team based care fashion that supports patients and their families in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change.   Adheres to the spirit of the SALUD mission statement while performing assigned duties.

Supervision Received:

All physicians are ultimately under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer.  The Pediatrician also receives administrative supervision from the Center Management Director.

Supervision Exercised:

The Pediatrician exercises supervision over clinic staff as assigned.  This would include physician supervision of non-physician practitioners, (i.e., mid-level practitioners)

Specific Duties:

  • Renders medical services to patients including history, examination, diagnosis, and treatment plan and enters this information into the electronic health system.
  • Provides medical services appropriate to the age-specific needs of all patients in accordance with the principles of growth and development for infants, children, and adolescents.
  • The Pediatrician acts as a patient advocate for our vulnerable population by ensuring that the patient is fully informed and comfortable with their visit to SALUD.
  • Works in conjunction with other Medical Providers, Dental Providers, Behavioral Health Providers and all other staff to ensure that the patient obtains the highest standard of integrated health care
  • Maintain clinic charts in which he or she record the progress

of patients, charts must be completed within 24 hours of patient visit.  Maintains the accepted level of medical records requirements (i.e., problem lists, medication lists, flow sheets, etc.).

  • Attends and participates in other activities conducted by SALUD (i.e., staff training, educational sessions, meetings, etc.).
  • Supervise medical students and residents assigned to the clinic for the purposes of education
  • Uphold a program for quality assurance within the clinic
  • Review and develop patient educational material
  • Follows procedures for the electronic health record system.
  • Responsible to participate in clinic committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the principles and practices of general medicine and surgery.  Thorough knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of diseases and injuries.  Ability to gain the confidence of patients and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with them and with other employees.  Must work well with the other patient care team members. Ability to speak Spanish required.  Sensitivity to low income and ethnic minority community a must.


MD or DO degree.  Board certified through the American Board of Pediatrics.


One year prior experience is required.


Must possess a license to practice medicine in good standing in the State of Colorado.

Bloodborne Pathogen Risk Level:

High risk exposure of bloodborne pathogens

Physical Requirements

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.  Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.  Occasionally lifts and carries items.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record data electronically and communicate with patients. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.  Requires exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.  Requires working under stress in emergency situations or irregular hours.
