General Description of Duties:

This position will be responsible for the coordination of the activities related to the services offered in Salud’s mobile unit including: scheduling, stocking material, as well as quality assurance of laboratory equipment.  The Migrant Health Program Assistant approaches his/her tasks in a team based care fashion that supports patients and their families in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Assures all patients seen in Mobile Unit get registered into Salud’s system. The Migrant Health Program Assistant will perform medical assistant activities such as taking vitals, vaccination or drawing blood in the mobile unit as well as supervising volunteers. Adheres to the spirit of the SALUD mission statement while performing assigned duties

Works directly under the supervision of the Migrant Health Director.

Specific Duties:

Creates a system to assure medical and non medical information gets entered into Salud Information System after each visit in the Mobile Unit.

Works in conjunction with other Medical Providers, Dental Providers, Behavioral Health Providers and all other staff to ensure that the patients obtain the highest standards of integrated healthcare.

The Migrant Health Program Assistant acts as a patient advocate for our vulnerable population by ensuring that the patient is fully informed and comfortable with their visit to SALUD

Will help with medical screenings, immunizations, blood drawing and medical procedures performed in mobile unit.

Provides reports of inventory (supplies) to Migrant Health Director.

Follows procedures for the electronic health records System

Ensures community volunteers follow adequate techniques and procedures while performing medical screenings in Mobile Unit.

Assists in the assurance of providing good quality services during visits in Mobile Unit.

Enroll patients seen in Mobile Unit into Salud’s system. Assisting patients filling the necessary forms as well as entering the information into Salud’s system when needed.

Assure that all patients seen in Mobile Unit get entered into Salud’s system generating its correspondent claim.

Verify patient eligibility for third payer source when needed.

Monitors Mobile Unit medical equipment calibration and maintenance on a daily basis.

Summits monthly lab reports in a timely manner onto the Public drive.

Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.

Acts as IZ Coordinator back up

Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Supervises that all Mobile Unit marketing tools and medical supplies are available on the Mobile Unit and the storage room.

Minimum Requirements


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

This person must possess:

The ability to work independently as well as a extensive  knowledge of health care;

Sensitivity to indigent and ethnic minority communities;

Must work well with the other patient care team members.

Understand medical terminology and medical procedures and be familiar with CPT ICDM and other coding systems.

Ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the different health departments and other health care providers.

Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

Bilingual English/Spanish mastery (required).

Ability to maintain confidentiality.


Bachelor’s degree in a health related field or 5 years of experience.


At least two years working in a cross-cultural healthcare environment preferred.


Medical Assistant Certification

Blood borne Pathogen Risk Level:

High exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Environmental Conditions:

Normal medical and dental office environment office as well as various weather conditions when working in Mobile Unit.

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for long periods of time; some bending and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; ability to work in a stressful environment.
