The Sr. Analyst is an integral part of the Marketing Analytics team that analyzes detailed customer data to develop powerful insights that drive and inform marketing strategies across the organization. The Sr. Analyst will utilize innovative analytic and statistic-based approaches to optimize and further support marketing efforts in a fast-paced, data-focused retail environment. This position will also be responsible for presenting analyses and insights to multiple internal groups with varying levels of technical expertise.


  • Work with internal partners to assess business needs by selecting optimal technique(s) to pull, analyze and transform complex data elements into meaningful observations and insights.
  • Develop strong partnerships with stakeholders across the organization as a subject matter expert of customer data and master story teller.
  • Prepare and present results to all levels of the organization in an audience specific language with the goal of generating action-oriented decision-making.
  • Analyze Ulta Beauty customer behavioral data, demographics, segmentation, and market basket data and transform it into meaningful insights for the business.
  • Extract member data, including customer profile info, campaign response, and transaction data, from existing Ulta Beauty systems, using tools such as R, SAS and/or complex SQL queries.
  • Advise key business teams on the optimal approach for proving out hypotheses by leveraging test and learn methodologies
  • Decipher and distill large amounts of data into concise, directionally-sound, understandable findings
  • Ensure data integrity by leveraging proven methodologies, including data reconciliation, data integration and data audits.


Minimum Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience developing business strategies resulting from quantitative marketing analytics/data mining and presenting those results to the client/business partner.
  • Experience working with customer-level data within Retail, CPG, Retail, T&E, Financial or related industries.
  •  Capable of managing project schedules and deadlines that run simultaneously
  • BA/BS degree in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business or related analytical degree or experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven command of SQL, relational databases and MS Excel/PowerPoint (R or SAS a plus)
  •  Experience with data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau) a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - must be able to communicate complex ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic environment, handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, prioritizing appropriately and responding to issues quickly and creatively with an open and positive attitude.
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Energetic and self-motivated - must be extremely organized and detail oriented with an ability to make proactive recommendations.


  • Ability to manage larger, more complex projects from start to completion with minimal assistance.
  • SQL, MS Excel/PowerPoint. R or SAS a plus.
  • Outstanding data visualization skills
  • Must be able to see the “big picture” and be able to relate findings across various analyses.
  • Strong sense of curiosity and storytelling.
  • Strong attention to detail.
