The Health & Wellness Director will assist with the supervision and coordination of health and wellness department programs, staff, and activities. 


  • Assist with coordination of the group exercise program and maintenance/upkeep of the group exercise rooms.
  • Ensure classes requiring sub instructors have adequate coverage and communicate to Welcome Center Staff and members changes to regular schedule.                                    
  • Keep track of group exercise count stats and make recommendations for schedule.                                            
  • Coordinate registration of personal training sessions (obtain medical clearance, assign clients, and track new clients and renewals).                            
  • Assist with teaching group exercise classes when needed.
  • Assist Health & Wellness Director with program and staff development, wellness staff training, and scheduling.
  • Complete general wellness equipment cleaning and maintenance responsibilities.
  • Perform Wellness Orientations for new members.
  • Strive to know every member by name and maintain a positive, ongoing relationship with all members.
  • Works with personal trainers to sell the minimum number of personal training sessions to meet monthly sales goals.
  • Responsible for gaining knowledge of all YMCA programs and services in order to accurately inform customers of the services available.
  • Consistently provide friendly, courteous assistance exceeding customer expectations every day, which includes building and maintaining healthy professional relationships with customers, guests, staff, and host agencies.
  • Support and contribute to a safe, clean environment for staff and customers.
  • Uphold YMCA policies and procedures in a tactful, positive manner.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-service trainings.



  • Handle additional office work to ensure the efficient and effective running of the department, including bi-weekly payroll.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of regular member special events.
  • Participate in the Annual Support Campaign and other development activities as appropriate.
  • Assist the Health and Wellness Director with any other duties as assigned for the efficient running of the department.


  • Demonstrate high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, sound judgment, and discretion when dealing with donors, volunteers, and community professionals.
  • Provides a quality experience for everyone, including but not limited to Health Seekers, Members, Participants, Internal Customers, Fellow Staff Members, Vendors, and others.

  1. Bachelor's degree in Preferred majors: Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred
  2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in programming.
  3. Minimum of one year's experience in staff supervision.
  4. Experience in developing programs for assigned program area is preferred.
  5. Physical ability to instruct class when assigned instructor is unavailable.
  6. Current certification in CPR/AED for Adults, Children and Infants and First Aid.
  7. Current certification in Personal Training and/or Group Exercise
  8. Proficient in and able to clearly communicate specific components and usage of cardio-respiratory, selectorized, free weight, and other common exercise equipment (i.e., rubberized resistance, stability balls, medicine balls, etc.).
  9. Ability to conduct scientifically valid fitness assessments and appropriately interpret the results.




Physical Requirements:

The employee is expected to meet the physical requirements of the position, which may include, a frequent amount of sitting, standing and walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.  Lifting requirement of the position may be greater depending on the particular job to be performed (i.e. aquatics, child care).
