This internship is posted on behalf of the Fort Wayne/Allen County Disability Advisory Council.

Hours flexible; approximately 10 hours/week

Under the direction of Fort Wayne/Allen County Disability Advisory Council, the Instructional Design Intern/Volunteer assists council members in the development of a curriculum on Disability Awareness and Inclusiveness. This is a temporary, project based, unpaid position.


  • Participates in meeting with council members to identify learning objectives and approach to training that can be used in both classroom style and web-based instruction
  • Collects information pertinent to project developments
  • Design and develop instructor-led training program and online options
  • Support training materials using identified styles and standards
  • Ensure that all information is consistent, easy to understand, and well organized
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions



  • Instructional design experience or coursework
  • Teaching and/or instructional experience or coursework (college student, current/former educator or corporate training specialist)
  • Able to utilize and have access to multimedia technology and authoring tools.
  • Ability to critically think to analyze data
  • Ability to provides samples of writing/training previously designed
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule and meet deadlines
  • Work both independently and within a team
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office and work-related software


The Instructional Design Intern/Volunteer performs a majority of duties in a standard office environment with the ability to move around freely. Some standing, walking, lifting of up to 20 pounds, bending, pushing/pulling loads, reaching overhead, detailed inspection, monitoring equipment, and kneeling are required. Frequent sitting, mental/visual effort, typing, proofreading, transcribing, and attention to detail are to be expected. The Instructional Design Intern/Volunteer occasionally works in the field and may be exposed to various weather conditions, dangerous equipment, noise, and physical hazards with construction sites, working in traffic, and other inspection areas.
