This position is full-time, nonexempt, classified and covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

Hours are 7:00 am - 3:00 pm with the ability to work nights, weekends and be on-call 24/7; 40 hours/week; overtime as required

Under the direction of the Plant Facility Manager, the Journeyman Electrician maintains and installs all electrical, lighting, analog and digital phones, internet, WiFi, audio/visual, cat 5E and fiber optic systems.


  • Responsible for hardwiring, connecting and training new employees on numerous custom software operating systems.
  • Connects the hardwiring and installation of data, phone and Audio/Visual (A/V) lines.
  • Performs facility maintenance for all electrical, boiler, lighting, theatrical equipment, A/V system, cooking and catering equipment.
  • Provides electrical, phone, internet and Audio/Visual (A/V) installation and usage for events in the expo and arena including, but not limited to, concerts, conventions and trade shows.
  • Assists Plant Facilities Manager with evaluating and prioritizing projects and scheduling labor to complete tasks, projects and to ensure coverage over two shifts/seven days a week.
  • Ensures electrical and fire codes are followed.
  • Estimates and orders materials to complete projects within facilities.
  • Maintains facility’s emergency systems including installing, maintaining and testing audio, generator, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) units, fire alarms, building security systems and emergency lighting systems.
  • Manages all maintenance on electrical, A/V and telecommunications equipment.
  • Responsible for snow removal
  • Assists engineering group with heating and cooling controls and DC drives as needed.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.

Minimum Requirements and Working Conditions



  • High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of an electrical apprentice program
  • Five years electrician experience
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician License
  • Telecommunications and data wiring experience
  • Ability to use electrical testing equipment, hand and power tools, fork truck, aerial lifts, telecommunications and data test equipment, snow plows and loaders
  • Valid Driver’s License to operate equipment
  • Valid Fork Truck License
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related software
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to direct and train others to complete tasks and projects
  • Ability to perform work functions on the catwalk and other heights as needed


The Journeyman Electrician works in an arena facility requiring frequent walking, some sitting and standing and frequent lifting up to forty pounds and pushing and/or pulling loads.  Very frequent bending, reaching over head, kneeling, crawling and climbing ladders is required including working at heights up to 150 feet above the ground and on catwalks.  The Journeyman Electrician must have the ability to type including proofreading, attention to detail, monitoring equipment and detailed inspection is required.  The Journeyman Electrician is required to work outdoors during extreme weather conditions with exposure to dirt, grease, slippery surfaces and high and low temperatures.  Safety precautions must be observed at all times to ensure safety of self and others.
