JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Library Director, the Food Service Associate is responsible for selling and serving hot and cold food items in the Bookmark Café during the hours that the Library is open.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares, sells and serves hot and cold food items to a diverse clientele, including patrons and other staff members within established policies and guidelines;
  • Ensures that food in refrigerators, freezers, and on shelves is stored in accordance with state health standards and within established policies;
  • Regularly check all thermometers including dishwasher, freezer and refrigerator and reports any problems immediately to designated personnel;
  • Performs deep cleaning duties: wipes and sanitizes all refrigerators and freezers, defrosts the ice cream case, wipes clean cold pastry case and cookie case, vacuums crevices of cases, sanitizes cases, wipes back room shelves, and reorders inventory;
  • Cleans up café area by washing tables, table service items, and preparing                        equipment and containers according to established guidelines;
  • Helps decorate and generate creative ideas for the cafe to attract customers;
  • Stores leftover food items per established guidelines;
  • Takes money and makes changes according to established auditor guidelines;
  • Using and maintaining the point of sale system;
  • Reacts to change productively and handles other essential tasks as assigned; and
  • Performs other assigned duties.

Minimum Requirements

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • High School Diploma;
  • One (1) year of experience; and
  • Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of health codes;
  • Skilled in the use small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems;
  • Skilled in using computers for data entry;
  • Skilled in using computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes;
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted;
  • Ability to prepare, sell and serve hot and cold food items per established guidelines;
  • Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools;
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs;
  • Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively;
  • Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others; and
  • Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 20 pounds); balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
