Job Description

 

As a Cook you will be responsible for cooking nutritionally balanced meals according to approved menus and recipes and preparing other nourishments as required to help ensure the dietary needs of residents are met.     

  • Using established and approved cooking methods, menus, and recipes, cooks food and designated alternatives.    
  • opens and closes kitchen according to established and approved procedures.     .  
  • Oversee general tray preparation 
  • Prepares food for special events such as in-house catered meetings, resident functions, facility holiday parties, celebrations, and other non-routine events that include food.  Included may be cooking or serving special “on-demand” food items in public at a carving station, omelet station, etc.  
  • Receives incoming food and supply stock by checking items against invoice and stores in appropriate storage area in a neat and orderly fashion.   
  • In the absence of other supervisory departmental personnel on duty, provides supervisory oversight to Dietary Assistants to ensure that all work is completed in a timely and compliant manner. 
  • On a given shift, may be required or assigned to complete Dietary Assistant duties to help ensure efficient, safe, and compliant food service operations.

Requirements

 
  • 1 year of professional institutional cooking experience preferred            
  • Strong working knowledge of using recipes
  • Sanitation knowledge and certificate of training or the ability to obtain   
  • Customer service skills / hospitality approach
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills (in the English language) sufficient to perform the principle duties and responsibilities outlined in this job description 
  • Capable of performing the following minimum physical requirements
  • Preferred additional education: High School Diploma or GED.
