Recreational Therapist

Job Description


As a Recreation/Activities Therapist, you will be responsible for coordinating and implementing daily therapeutic activity programs designed to meet the residents’ needs and interests. Programs include both group and individual therapeutic activities for all residents with a wide range of abilities.

Principle Responsibilities

  1. Plans, organizes and coordinates Activity programs to meet the resident’s social, emotional, mental, physical and spiritual needs.
  2. Assesses resident in light of their background, interest, leisure, previous lifestyle, physical and cognitive limitations and needs.
  3. Documents individual activity program using the appropriate assessment forms.
  4. Completes Minimum Data Set (MDS) comprehensive assessment forms in a timely manner.
  5. Participates in the multidisciplinary team approach in the development, implementation and evaluation of care plans.
  6. Attends resident care conferences and documents appropriate information in individual resident care plans.
  7. Completes progress notes that are specific to the resident’s activity plans at least quarterly or more frequently when appropriate.




  • Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field
  • Credentialed or eligible as CTRS through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation or other recognized accrediting body
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) preferred
  • New grads welcome 
  • Previous work experience in health care highly desired
  • One year in long term care Therapeutic Activities field preferred.           
  • Flexible, creative, patience, caring, good communication and writing skills, organized. New grad or some experience accepted.
