Job Description


This position is responsible for providing non-skilled assistance as directed to improve the resident experience and enhance the time efficiency of skilled caregivers such as Certified Nursing Assistants and licensed nurses. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  •  Responds to resident call lights and, for non-skilled requests (for example, extra blanket or help with TV) meets the residents need.  For skilled care needs (for example, help with toileting), advises C.N.A. or nurse.  
  • Performs light housekeeping duties in resident rooms such as picking up trash, organizing closets, and attending to general tidiness.     
  • As assigned, makes up resident beds.    
  • Checks resident rooms as assigned and ensures that water pitchers are filled with fresh water and are within resident’s reach.     
  • Transports residents to and from dining room, rehab department, recreational activities and other areas of the facility as appropriate.     
  • Upon meal cart delivery to unit, positions cart and serves resident trays as assigned.     
  • For residents who are able to eat independently (as defined by the clinical staff), sets up food trays as needed by opening milk containers, condiment packages, straws and obtaining extra items needed such as napkins and silverware.        
  • Upon admission of resident or other times as requested, uses approved format to document and, as applicable, label resident belongings.  Updates inventory of resident belongings as directed.        
  • Assists with stocking of nursing supplies in accordance with established central supply standards.    
  • Cleans clinical equipment in accordance with established procedure.  Included are wheelchairs, bedside tables, enteral pumps, IV poles, oxygen concentrators, ice chests, chair cushions and other items as assigned.      
  • Immediately reports changes in resident condition to Charge Nurse or designee.       
  • Immediately reports non-routine incidents involving residents, visitors or self to Charge Nurse or designee.       
  • Maintains willingness to be trained in roles within other departments such as Dietary, Housekeeping, Laundry, Activities, or other areas where clinical certification or licensure is not required.
