Immediate Supervisor: Activity Director/Memory Care Program Coordinator

Part Time Weekends

As our Activities Assistant you will be responsible for

  • Implementing social and recreational activities and, for Memory Care residents, therapeutic activities designed to meet resident interests, preferences, and needs.
  • Included are activities for groups and individuals as well as those that are external to the facility.
  • For Memory Care residents, Positive Approach to Care techniques will be used to enhance the quality of daily life and minimize disruptive behavior. 

Principal Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordinates and leads group activities as scheduled including evening and weekend activities as assigned.  
  • Appropriately communicates offered activities and invites residents to participate in group activities.
  • If needed, transports residents to and from activities.
  • During group or individual activity, observes residents and provides assistance as may be needed to maximize residents’ enjoyment.  
  • Conducts one-on-one activities as directed by supervisor to meet individualized activity needs.
  • As assigned, assists with preparation of resident newsletter and other materials published by the Activity Department.  
  • Observes volunteers assisting with group activities to help ensure that all volunteer assistance is appropriate. 
  • Maintains tidy and safe environment by preparing for and cleaning up after group activities. 
  • Immediately communicates to nursing staff, observed sudden changes in resident’s condition that may require emergency clinical intervention.
  • Assists with care of pets residing in common facility areas and, as requested, pets owned by individual residents.  
  • As assigned, accompanies residents on external outings to coordinate transportation and schedules while overseeing safety and enhancing resident enjoyment of the experience.    
  • For Memory Care residents, utilizes Positive Approach to Care (PAC) techniques as trained and instructed. 

                                                               

Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • 1 year of experience working with seniors providing social or recreational activities preferred but not required.               
  • When working with residents with memory impairment, uses PAC techniques as trained.

 Other Essential Requirements:

  • As part of its mission to provide a welcoming, homelike environment for its residents, Linden House promotes the use of animals as pets in the facility both as common facility pets and as pets owned and brought in by individual residents.  All employees must possess the ability and desire to work in a pet-friendly environment which will include performing job duties in the presence of pets, handling and caring for pets as may be required, and cleaning up after pets as necessary.    
  • Demonstrates verbal and written communication skills (in the English language) sufficient to perform the principle duties and responsibilities outlined in this position description
