As a Behavior Analyst, be an integral part in the rehabilitation programs as you develop and monitor individual behavior treatment programs for the clinic, residential and extended care patients. Work is full time during the weekdays (7:30am - 4:30pm) and may require some on-call work. Work is performed primarily at the clinic, the residential site, and minimal time in the community. The residential site may be a home and/or an apartment complex which may have two stories; if two stories, the top story is accessible by one flight of stairs.

A high degree of accuracy in documentation and observation, adaptability to a variety of situations, strong organizational and communication skills, decision making and an ability to evaluate situations as they occur is needed for this position.

Develops and monitors individual behavior programs and data systems.

  1. Reports all such programs and/or changes to the Director of Behavior Programming, Director of Rehabilitation, Clinical Case Managers, and/or Behavior Program Coordinator.
  2. Consults with clinical and residential staff to receive input on the implementation and effectiveness of each program.
  3. Reviews behavior programs as required with clinical therapists and other relevant staff. Requires verbal ability to effectively express ideas and programs when speaking to patients, patients' families, and personnel.
  4. Reviews behavior data, module results and generates appropriate statistics. Requires ability to analyze data and calculate totals using calculator and/or computer.
  5. Distributes programs and program changes to appropriate personnel. Monitors behavior database to include new, updated information and discontinue irrelevant information. May require visual ability and fine motor manipulation to manage computer input.
  6. Provides discharge recommendations related to behavior. Provide training as needed to transition behavior programs to the home environment.

Performs reporting procedures.

  1. Submits conference reports, initial evaluations and discharge summaries for patients. Requires visual ability and fine motor manipulation to dictate and review/edit reports.
  2. Reports verbally or in writing (according to patient/carrier/company requirements) in conferences, staffings and other meetings to inform necessary personnel, insurance carriers, patients' families, and patients (as appropriate) of patient treatment and progress.

Conducts clinic behavior staffings, training and programming as required. Makes rounds of clinic therapies, trains staff and reviews program implementation. Requires walking, standing, climbing stairs, and participation in program implementation activities such as physical exercises and cognitive skill exercises. Must have the ability to coordinate, participate in, lead, and teach such programs.

Provides for the safety of patients, visitors, staff and self when interacting with patients who may have behavioral outbursts.

  1. Must be able to recognize patient escalation, via verbal, physical and visual cues.
  2. Must be able to attempt to verbally and physically de-escalate patient using Behavior Modification techniques according to each patient's program, which may include Professional Crisis Assault Training (Pro-ACT) such as evasive self-defense (ability to get out of the way) and controlling self-defense (restraints).
  3. Physical intervention and restraints can include calling for help, lifting, standing, walking, running, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, carrying, pulling, pushing and assisting with the restraint of patients weighing up to 150 pounds or more.

Performs toilet and chair transfers with assistance for patients up to 150 pounds utilizing approved transfer techniques.  Transfer techniques include standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.  Patients requiring moderate to maximum assistance and weighing over 150 pounds are lifted and/or transferred by two or more persons.

Uses special equipment as required by each patient including, but not limited to wheelchairs, tracheostomy tubes, gastric feeding tubes, and external catheters, at any given time according to the outline of each patient's program.  May require find motor manipulation, lifting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pulling when working with equipment.

Maintains professional and ethical relationships with staff, patients, patient families, and other visitors according to the Behavior Analysis Certification Board ethical guidelines.

Attends staff meetings, in-services, and all scheduled shifts.

PREFERRED DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

SPECIAL SKILLS UTILIZED, EDUCATION LEVEL, TRAINING

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Behavior Analysis or related field of expertise

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst or Board Certified Behavior Analyst preferred or eligibility for certification.

Working knowledge of rehabilitative care required.

Prior direct care experience working with the brain injury population of persons served is preferred.

Prior experience as Neuro Rehabilitation Specialist, Supervisor, Residential Treatment Coordinator, etc. preferred.
