The Director of Accounting is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures, monthly and annual financial close, overseeing accounting activities, and managing the performance of accounting and financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger.  Work is full time during the week with some overtime. Work is performed at the CNS business office and there may be some travel to other locations.

In general, this position requires a high level of accuracy and an ability to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of a growing company.

Minimum Requirements

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

1. Oversees and assists in the performance of all accounting and finance operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, treasury, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger.  Ensures records, files and reports are maintained in accordance with company standards and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).  Requires excellent knowledge of .f of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.

2. Meets accounting objectives by overseeing and ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of monthly and annual financial statements. Requires ability to present information and interact effectively with senior executives, stakeholders, cross- functional business leaders, peers, accounting staff, and customers.

3. Reviews and directs records, systems, and procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of accounting processes. Directs the posting of entries to and conducts analyses of ledgers such as general, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

4. Conducts monthly account analysis on all balance sheet accounts and maintains detail supporting schedules used in the annual review engagement of the company’s financial statements. This requires the ability to analyze and interpret financial information as well as being detail-oriented.

5. Provides leadership and consultation through sharing of best practice techniques and mentoring.  Oversees and assists assigned staff in the performance of accounting and finance duties in order to promote a team environment where everyone can openly contribute.  Ensures that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. 

6. Manages and supervises assigned accounting department employees; responsible for day-to-day supervision and leadership of staff.  Reviews and participates as needed in job performance evaluations for accounting staff in a timely manner.

7. Provides financial guidance and detailed financial analysis and other ad hoc information to Senior Management to assist in making business decisions and achieve growth, profitability, and budget targets across the organization.

8. Develops and implements creative process improvements and best-known practices while simplifying current financial management processes.  Requires ability to think strategically, synthesize complex data and develop creative and innovative solutions within a complex environment.

9. Maintains professional and ethical relationships with staff, patients, patient families, insurance adjusters, attorneys and other visitors.

10. Attends staff meetings, in-services, and all scheduled shifts.

PREFERRED DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

SPECIAL SKILLS UTILIZED, EDUCATION LEVEL, TRAINING

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • CPA license (active or inactive license).
  • Superior knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting technical skills.
  • 10 years’ experience in finance or accounting required.  Industry specific experience not required.
  • Requires strong proficiency with Excel and manipulating data bases.
  • Experience with accounting software packages preferred.   Familiarity with SAP and other relevant industry Finance systems/analytical software a major plus.
