To coordinate and maintain transportation services for recipients of Head Start, CSBG and Childcare Programs in an assigned service area.  To maintain a fleet of school buses and support vehicles for GLEAMNS.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Plan and schedule regular preventive maintenance and commercial repair work of school buses, chassis, bodies, and support vehicles, deal with contractors and garages concerning warranties, and check work to ensure all specifications are met.  Pickup and deliver vehicle to original site.

2. Develop and implement school bus and transportation policies to ensure program meets environmental and safety standards.

3.  Perform mandated six week inspections on all busses and support vehicles.  File reports and maintain documentation according to policies and regulations.

4. Perform minor maintenance on vehicles.  Keep an inventory of vehicle supplies for usage.

5. Conduct Commercial Driver’s License training for all bus drivers; assist the Transportation Program Director with safety training.

6. Investigate all accidents involving school busses, support vehicles and passenger injuries.  File all necessary documentation.

7. Collect weekly pre-check lists from bus drivers and review information for safety and maintenance purposes.

8.  Instruct bus drivers continually on all aspects of safety, communicate safety issues, indoctrinate new or transferred employees on safety policies and applicable safety rules.

9.  Assist Centers with transportation routes.

10. Perform other related work and acquire related job skills as required by management.

Minimum Requirements


High School Diploma or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the job description. Minimum two years automotive and bus mechanical background. Must have valid South Carolina Commercial Driver’s License.
