Cashier (Metro)

Job Description


This position is responsible for providing courteous, efficient, and accurate checkout service to customers in a manner that meets Our Brand of Customer Service expectations while meeting productivity expectations.

The following description of work to be performed by this individual is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather, it focuses on the major tasks that must be accomplished. There are many necessary activities to satisfy any of the following performance guidelines.

  • Greet each customer and answer any questions to ensure excellent customer service.  
  • Scan, weigh and key all items quickly and accurately.  
  • Assist in bagging the customer's groceries according to company prescribed standards.
  • Ensure carryout or drive up service is secured and the customer is completely satisfied.
  • Ensure accuracy and/or accountability for the cash over/shorts.
  • Maintain cleanliness of counter top, scale and scanner at all times.  Keep the coupon drawer and cash drawer neat, organized and secure at all times.
  • Perform stocking, food preparation and/or customer service duties in various departments.  
  • Perform clerical, cleaning and maintenance duties throughout the store.



1.    Education

  • Required: Secondary school math skills or equivalent

2.    Licensing Required: None

3.    Experience

  • Customer service experience preferred

4.    Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A service-oriented individual with a high energy, positive and friendly demeanor
