Lutheran Social Service of MN (LSS) has a rich legacy of providing holistic case management support to youth at risk of educational neglect or experiencing high barriers to success. The role of the Educational Support Advocate is to provide school and home-based advocacy and case management services to children and youth focused on the following: school attendance, academic performance, parent involvement in children's education, and connection to community support. ESAs work with youth to develop and complete personal goals related to academic and socioemotional success, provide direction and support in out of school time programming and serve as a liaison for families in need of support and advocacy within community and school settings. You will develop and maintain positive working relationships with school staff and volunteers, network with providers of similar services and promote the program to the community and other outside organizations. You will be required to maintain documentation, perform record keeping and participate in periodic meetings/training.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human service or equal experience in field is required.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in providing direct social services required.
  • Social Work or a field related to children or youth preferred.
  • Experience with school age children required.
  • Experience with low-income families and those who are homeless desired. Knowledge of community resources for children, strategies for school success, mental illness, and behavioral challenges preferred.
  • Experience with the educational system and tutoring children highly valued.
