Dispatcher - Field



Responsible for the daily coordination and dispatch of local CSX Chicago operations to ensure safe and on-time transportation service to our customers.



  1. Employment Issues
    1. Hire and train new employees, assuring a sufficient number of drivers to provide for maximum van utilization and customer service.

b) Schedule drivers to assure adequate coverage and rest time for drivers so vehicles are staffed with a driver 7 days per week.

  1. Ensure all required documentation is sent to Corporate timely.
  2. Maintains department results by coaching and counseling drivers, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  3. Communicates all company policies and procedures to drivers including any changes or updates that may take place.
  4. Maintenance
    1. Ensure drivers conduct daily van inspections and review daily inspection reports for anything that needs to be addressed. Send daily inspection reports to Corporate twice a month.
    2. Ensure vans are clean and properly maintained, including preventative and unplanned maintenance.
    3. Conduct physical van inspections.
  5. Dispatch
    1. Ensures all service orders are entered and called out to the appropriate driver in a timely manner.
    2. Informs customer of driver/vehicle availability information by stating estimated time of arrivals and documenting that information.
    3. Ensures proper assignment of drivers and company assets for completion of customer service orders in a timely manner.
    4. Ensures drivers received accurate service order information and provides assistance as needed.
    5. Closely monitors the driver’s hours in order to comply with company hours of service policy and state regulations.
    6. Contacts the appropriate CSX representative with any questions or difficulties regarding service orders.
    7. Ensures that all driver information is updated in CATS, including but not limited to: current way to contact driver, drivers’ availability status, phone number and driver up from rest.
    8. Ensures proper notification to CSX Liaison including status of the area, current trip activity and available drivers
  6. General
    1. Report all accidents, incidents or work place injuries to Lenexa Dispatch immediately. Ensure all accident reports and procedures are followed after an event
    2. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
    3.  Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
    4. Ensures the highest level of customer service and confidentiality at all times
    5. All other duties as assigned.

  • Valid Drivers License with no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years, no alcohol or drug related convictions within the last 3 years, no careless/reckless driving conviction with the last 3 years.
  • Must have no felony convictions within the last 7 years or been released from prison within the last 5 years, or have an open warrant, or pending felony court case, as verified by Criminal Background Report obtained by the company
  • Clean Controlled Substance Screen
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Have a clear understanding of the English language
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Working knowledge of computer applications
  • Proficient typing and 10-key skills

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent; six months of dispatch or customer service experience or one year of related experience; one year of supervisory experience strongly preferred; or a combination of supervisory experience and dispatch/related experience. 


Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, management, and other employees of the organization.


This position requires an individual with average mathematical skills.  This includes the following skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  


This position requires an individual to use reasonable judgment when making decisions that would concern the safety of the passengers and the general public. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Ability to lift 70 lbs. to change a tire

Ability to bend to inspect the undercarriage of a vehicle and/or the tires

Renzenberger, Inc. is a 24 hour, 7 days a week operation.  Employees may be scheduled to work weekends, holidays and overtime as need to ensure that our clientele receives the highest level of service.
