Job Description

 

Job Purpose:

 

To effectively plan, organize, lead, coordinate and optimize the materials and human resources in the floral department to provide variety and high quality merchandise to maximize the sales and profits of the department while maintaining great customer service.

Primary (Essential) Job Functions:

 

The list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the company.

 

  1. Provide an open door atmosphere conducive to high associate morale and excellent customer service.  Achieve the highest associate morale in the industry by managing in a style that is Respectful, Supportive and Totally Team Oriented (RSTO).
  2. Commit to the “Golden Rule” and working with all associates to build a strong floral team.
  3. Promote the company image as a service-oriented operation where every associate will greet, assist, render efficient service and thank customers in a prompt, courteous, friendly, and business-like manner.
  4. Ensure the department achieves the standards of performance as outlined in the work and merchandising plan.
  5. Communicate needs and problems to the store manager or other department as needed.
  6. Plan work schedules and breaks to achieve maximum department coverage; achieve payroll consistently by scheduling within budget.
  7. Account for inventory, security and expense control of the department; maintain accurate records of receiving, invoices, waste control, etc.
  8. Resolve customer complaints to the full satisfaction of the customer.
  9. Achieve and maintain department’s merchandising goals and standards in cooperation with store manager and department merchandisers and buyers (such as gross profit, presentation, etc.).
  10. Ensure that company standards of safety proper handling practices, sanitation and productivity are maintained.
  11. Ensure all new department associates receive proper review and job descriptions, goals, and objectives.
  12. Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline to promote high associate morale.
  13. Design and put together floral arrangements for all occasions, including weddings and special occasions.
  14. Ensure that all products are accurately priced, and that it scans at the register.
  15. Ensure accurate ordering; receive, process, rotate, display and store product deliveries to assure quality control.
  16. Keep all floral merchandise rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always makes use of the oldest products first (first in, first out).
  17. Place customer special orders in person and over the phone.
  18. Conduct weekly sales meetings with associates to establish merchandising, sales and profit objectives.
  19. Practice the “Cleaner’s Creed” and proper sanitation procedures.
  20. Be knowledgeable about floral products and offer suggestions for cut flowers and plant care, and floral arrangements.
  21. Ensure the department is merchandised in accordance with the needs of the community, and with cooperation with store manager and merchandisers and buyers.
  22. Keep back room/supply area, coolers and display cases organized and clean.
  23. Perform proper plant care maintenance for both inside and outside product (i.e., watering and trimming foliage and blooms on potted plants, etc.).
  24. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
  25. Participate actively in the control of shrink by keeping accurate records of product dumped, lost, or damaged, and minimizing waste on product and supplies.
  26. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
  27. Able to operate department equipment and tools.
  28. Possess good communication skills and the ability to conduct and facilitate department meetings.
  29. Train and develop associates in accordance with the company policy and procedures.  Guarantee the best-trained florist team in the industry.
  30. Individual successful completion of the passbook training within 60 days of entering the department.
  31. Responsible for department associates’ successful completion of the passbook training within the first 60 days of their entering the department.
  32. Respond timely to all department mail; prepare, analyze and maintain department reports and records.
  33. Ensure sales and work areas are swept clean, orderly and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
  34. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
  35. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures (thus compliance with all state and federal laws applicable to our industry).

 

 

Secondary Job Functions:

 

  1. Verify price checks for customers as needed.
  2. Ensure department associates adhere to company dress code standards.
  3. Hang and put out signs.
  4. Inflate balloons.
  5. Decorate the department to fit the current season.
  6. Receive, unload store and stock merchandise and build displays.
  7. Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude.
  8. Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized mark downs or property defacement.
  9. Other duties assigned by management.

 

 

Job Standards:

 

Knowledge of floral products; communicate plant and floral information to customers in a courteous, business-like manner.  Manage the department in order to maximize customer service, sales and profit while creating a positive relationship with the community and ensuring fair treatment of all customers, associates, external and internal contacts; ensure department achieves budget and department work plan.  (Floral Manager’s management and work activities are governed by the department volume and the department work plan).  Design floral arrangements in accordance with company standards.

Requirements

 

Initial Minimum Qualifications:

 

  1. Must be 18 years of age
  2. High school diploma or equivalent;
  3. Successful experience in floral operations (i.e., merchandising, ordering, inventorying, and pricing).
  4. Complete training in the floral operations.
  5. Ability to display initiative and work with limited supervision.
  6. Must be able to read and write English adequately
  7. Ability to speak, understand and follow English instructions.
  8. Basic computer skills.
  9. Completed core requirements check list.
  10. Ability to work at multiple store locations as needed.
