JOB SUMMARY (Briefly state why this position exists)

Ensure that all rolling stock is maintained in safe, efficient operating condition.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Assist in handling road service when needed.
  • Keep up to date on all maintenance records for tractors, trailers, Thermo King units, and all after-market equipment associated with the same.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on schedule for tractors, trailers, Thermo Kings, and all after-market equipment associated with the same.
  • Perform all types of engine, brake, drive train, electrical, and A/C repairs.
  • Issue POs for all parts ordered on approval per management.
  • Issue work orders for all work performed.
  • Insure all rolling stock meets minimum department of transportation stated safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by Management.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES THAT MAY BE ASSIGNED

  • Perform monthly OSHA inspections on vehicle maintenance facility.
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation including DOT Federal 396 Compliance Inspection.
  • Check/monitor fluid/fuel levels
  • Maintain repair/maintenance records in accordance with SYGMA policies
  • Train and assist other technicians.
  • Test-drive all types of vehicles.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma/GED or the equivalent in work experience is necessary.  You must have the ability to read, write and comprehend technical data as found in service manuals.    

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is medium to heavy in nature.  You must be able to safely lift 50 lb. – 75 lb. occasionally.  Repair work requires excellent hand and finger dexterity.

MENTAL/VISUAL DEMANDS

You must be able to read at a distance close to the eyes and at arms length, with or without correction.  Equipment that you will operate requires distance vision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Activities occur both inside (protected from weather conditions but not temperature changes) and outside.  Employee may be subjected to extreme cold during winter months.  Subject to hazardous conditions exist, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working in high places, and equipment worked with.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED

Semi tractor/trailer, arc welder, lifts, jacks, oversized tools, electronic analysis equipment, grinders, air compressors, and associated pneumatic tools.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION

Responsibilities require DOT qualification and a welding & refrigeration certificate.  Employee provides own hand tools. Loses of personal equipment and tools left on SYGMA's property is the sole responsibility of employee.  We recommend employee adequately insure any personal property or tools left on SYGMA's property.
