Job Description

 

Inspects, maintains and repairs fish processing equipment and machinery located on board the factory trawler using hand and power tools. May assist other factory trawler engineers in the performance of their respective duties.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Inspects, maintains and repairs food processing machinery on a daily basis as necessary. 
  2. Must be able to operate various hand and power tools, various engines and equipment associated with refrigeration, water making, hydraulics, electrical, steering, pumping and cooling used for both fishing (F/Ts only) and factory operations.
  3. Lubricates and cleans parts, equipment, and machinery.
  4. Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance specifications.
  5. Operates machine(s) to move live or packed seafood from place to place.
  6. Reviews workspace for cleanliness and safety.

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Performs other similar or related or unrelated duties as requested or assigned.
  2. Factory Trawlers: Responsible for the lubrication of all deck machinery. May assist in engine room watches.
  3. Factory Trawlers: May assist in the all loading and unloading operations at the start and end of all trips.

Requirements

 

 

Education:

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or zero to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

No experience in this particular field is necessary, but a reliable work history is required.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.  May be required to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.

Mental Activities:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use teamwork skills.  The employee will occasionally use interpersonal and customer service skills.  The employee will occasionally perform basic math and read, speak and write English.  The employee will frequently need to understand English.
