FUEL DOCK WORKER

Job Description

 

Dispense fuel in a safe and secure manner to vessels, gas dock, plant operations, as dictated by location.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Dispense fuel to vessels, vehicles, plant operations through various means.  Maintain all records related to the dispensing/selling of fuel.
  2. Complete routine maintenance with the assistance of engineering.
  3. Ensure compliance to SPCC plan.
  4. Understand and maintain compliance of government regulations related to fuel operations.  Participate in governmental inspections of fuel operations.
  5. Must participate in hazardous operations training.
  6. Operate in a safe and secure manner at all times.
  7. Maintain package product inventory for plant use and retail sales.
  8. Manages the daily, weekly, and monthly reconcilations of fuel sold and/or allocated.
  9. Maintain daily procedures related to valve open/close, equipment/piping inspections, and other procedures outlined in SOP.  
  10. Resolve issues regarding fuel with chief engineer and Alaska Support Management.
  11. Manages communication of pricing assigned.
  12. Works with plant staff to ensure equipment is functional and operational.
  13. Responsible for offloading fuel barges and ensuring each step is managed and accounted for in a safe manner. 

Additional Responsibilities

  1. In some locations, may be responsible for writing up invoices for fuel sales to vessels, reconciling sales with fuel stores at the end of their shift and submitting report for balancing out invoices and sales of fuel sold.
  2. Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned in specific areas – Akutan, Sandpoint, Chignik.

Requirements

 

Education: Four year degree or three years related experience or combination of experience and education. 

 

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to print and speak simple sentences.Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Work Environment:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or up to 40 pounds.

Mental Activities:      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, and problem analysis. The employee will occasionally use interpersonal skills and team work. The employee will regularly speak and read English, and use customer service skills.
