Job Description


Cleans and organizes industrial yard area and/or grounds by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions:

  1. Operates sweeper, to mitigate debris and metal dust from entering storm drain system.
  2. Keeps industrial yard area ree and clean of debris/garbage by collecting it and placing it in approriate receptacles.
  3. Makes minor repairs on equipment as needed.
  4. Paints and touches up paint in parking areas as needed or instructed.
  5. Shovels snow from walks and de-ices walkways as and when needed.
  6. Assists in grounds-keeping duties as needed.
  7. Operates forklift when needed.

Additional Responsibilities:

Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.


Less than high school education; or up to one month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

If operating a forklift, must be forklift certified.

Special Training/Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.

Mental Activities:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to use decision making skills, creativity, independent judgment, discretion, customer service skills. and problem analysis. The employee will occasionally use interpersonal skills and team work; and provide training, supervision, and mentoring. The employee will regularly engage in teamwork, speak and read English.
