POSITION TITLE:                 Production Manager

DIVISION:                             Traditions

STATUS:                                Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Manager manages and oversees the plant production activities.  The Production Manager makes recommendations and changes to improve the efficiencies associated with the productivity of the site’s production operations.

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS

The Production Manager reports directly to the Operations Manager and has direct supervision over the Production Supervisors and indirect supervision over approximately assigned hourly employees.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

The position functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by Valley Services, Inc.

  • Facilitate the activities of all direct reports to ensure no interruption in the supply of finished product available for customer orders while maintaining all appropriate product standards and specifications
  • Manage the day to day operations of the plant in order to meet the financial goals for departments 5980 and 5990
  • Recruits, hires, trains, disciplines and terminates employees in accordance with applicable Valley policies and procedures
  • Develops systems and procedures to track and communicate Key Performance Indicators to the plant staff and employees
  • Works with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that all HACCP guidelines are met with respect to USDA and FDA
  • Directs and supervises all direct reports to ensure that job requirements are being met
  • Reviews records to ensure accuracy and maintains all established systems that monitor report accuracy
  • Plans and / or reviews all production pack-out and production for the coming week and works with the Purchasing Manager to project production numbers for future weeks
  • Works with HR on employee relation issues
  • Monitors employee retention and creates and maintains programs to decrease employee turnover

Minimum Requirements

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

A high school diploma with five (5) years of management experience directly related to the production activity within a manufacturing facility and knowledge of related systems. Preference:  Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field and five (5) years of experience in managing operations in a manufacturing facility.

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills to communicate with all educational levels, including employees, vendors, clients and customers
  • Must have the ability to make judgments concerning the interpretation of policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability be able to make decisions based on events that occur within the company
  • Must have the ability to handle complaints at numerous timely
  • Must have the ability to count or weigh items, add, subtract, multiply and divide
  • Must have the ability to evaluate current inventory levels and order required food and supplies in order to support menus and supply orders
  • Must have the ability to direct and control management activities of others  to meet goals and objectives
  • Must have a strong knowledge of expense management, financial planning, and strategic planning

 PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORTS

Physical:

Physical demand level is moderate with 10-30 pounds of lifting occurring occasionally.  Must be able to tolerate sudden and extreme changes in temperature.  Intermittent sitting and standing with wide freedom of movement.  Occasional lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.  Some travel by air or vehicle, including overnight stays, may be required.

 Mental:

Works with minimal supervision.  Handles multiple projects.  Handles high levels of stress and pressure of deadlines.  Exercises independent judgment.  Concentrates for considerable periods of time.  Attends to detail.  Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality concerning information regarding employees, clients, customers, vendors, and other company business. 

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment is a frozen food manufacturing plant.  Most of the workday will be indoors (at 50 degrees or below).  Must be able to tolerate sudden and extreme changes in temperature.  Interacts with employees, customers, and clients on a daily basis.  Works flexible hours as needed.
