Description

 

To teach reading/phonics skills, using multi-sensory language instruction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide one-on-one multi-sensory, structured language instruction to adult students.
  2. Assess students when needed.
  3. Provide remedial help as needed.
  4. Be familiar with all curriculum materials and curriculum.
  5. Maintain a positive and productive classroom atmosphere.
  6. Assist in maintaining student attendance.  Record absences and call students who are absent.
  7. Have the ability to give and correct standardized testing on a yearly basis.
  8. Give CASAS tests to students.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Have the ability to work efficiently on computer, and to be able to solve minor computer problems independently.
  • Be able to act as a team player, be well-organized and able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Approach her/his duties with enthusiasm, patience, and good humor.

Minimum Requirements

 

To be hired the individual must:

  • Be certified to teach in the State of Connecticut and must have, or have the qualifications to obtain, adult education certification.
  • Have a master’s degree in special education, reading or prior teaching experience is a plus.
  • Be able to use multi-sensory structured teaching methods and have, or be willing to be trained to use our Read to Succeed model.
  • Have the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of society.
  • Have the ability to supervise volunteer tutors.
  • Be reliable, prompt, responsible, and professional.
  • Attend CASAS training for reading and writing.
