The Parent Ambassador (PA) is a seasonal, part-time, regional enrollment position. It is responsible for communicating about Power Scholars Academy and its mission and recruiting parents to enroll their children in our programs. PA's perform these duties in-person and by phone by effectively informing families and community members about Power Scholars Academy and ensuring the timely distribution and collection of applications, enrollment forms, and any other required enrollment materials.

GHYMCA is seeking 2 Parent Ambassadors for the Y BELL Power Scholars Academy sites in Hartford at Dr. Frank T. Simpson-Waverly School and in East Harford at Anna E. Norris Elementary School. There will be 2 Parent Ambassadors per site/location for 5 weeks




Major Duties and Responsibilities

· Work with Power Scholars Academy Management and Principals to develop and implement the recruitment/enrollment plan for the program and each site.

·Conduct outreach at schools and community events and other central locations throughout the region as planned to recruit families for Power Scholars Academy's programs.

·Conduct school-based in-person outreach during school arrival and dismissal times.

·Represent Power Scholars Academy to parents and school personnel at community and school-based parent meetings, Family Orientations/Info Sessions, open houses, and other events to recruit and enroll scholars.

·Conduct outbound phone banking during the early morning, late afternoon, evening hours and some weekends as scheduled to support scholar recruitment and invite families to attend Power Scholars Academy events.

·Fulfill direct mail programs as directed by regional enrollment.

·Always represent Power Scholars Academy in a manner that is professional, responsive, and consistent with the organization's values.

·Consistently and thoroughly communicate back to the regional enrollment and program teams all information gathered during a school site visit or other enrollment event.

·Return all completed enrollment paperwork in an organized, neat and timely manner to the regional office for processing.

·Ensure that all enrollment activities are executed in compliance with Power Scholars Academy, federal, state, and local regulations and policies.

·Perform other duties as required.





Minimum Requirements

  •  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • high-level of professionalism and customer service experience. High school diploma preferred.
  • Local community experience preferred. Bilingual a big plus.  
  • Must be able to work mornings, late afternoon/early evenings and some weekends on a revolving schedule.
  • School personnel, teachers, tutors, college students, parents from the community are all viable candidates for this position.
  • Must be high energy;
  • flexible and reliable;
  • detail-oriented and patient; committed to the Y's mission.
  • Must have own transportation and valid driver's license.  Local travel required daily to 1 or more school sites and to Y.
  • Able to lift boxes up to 25 pounds of materials.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history check and or be fingerprinted if required.
  • Subject to the Y's dress code.
  •  TERM: Usually works in the 5 to 4 weeks prior to start date, 10 to 15 hours per week, according to schedule until enrollment is completed.
