Under the direction of the Youth Development Director and Executive Director; the Camp Director is responsible for the implementation and development of the summer day camp program.




1.Responsible for the operation of summer day camp, consisting of between 100-150 campers weekly during June-September.

2. With the Youth Development Director, ensure that all required standards and guidelines set forth by Department of Health and A.C.A. are regularly met.

3. Responsible for the creation, communication, and implementation of Session-based programming at YMCA Camp Indian Valley.

4. Responsible for operation of low rope elements, Environmental Education, and User Group Programming, including assisting curriculum development, program promotions, and maintenance/improvements of facilities and equipment.  

5. With guidance from the Youth Program Director, accountable for Day Camp, low rope elements, Environmental Education, and general programing.

6. Responsible for staff training, and supervision for Summer Day Camp, low ropes elements, Environmental Education, and general programing.

7. Assist with Annual Invest in Youth Campaign, including leadership toward camp special events.

8.Servers as a member of the Camp YMCA Staff Team, assisting with special events, programming and committees as assigned.

9. Responsible for neat and organized upkeep of YMCA facilities and equipment.

10. Implements programs that identify safety, quality, and excellent customer services as top priorities.

11. Any other duties assigned by the Youth Development Director and/or Executive Director



Minimum Requirements



1.Must be  21 years old.

2. Experience in adventure programming, environmental education and camping is highly desired.

3. Excellent organizational and administrative skills required.

4. Ability to work well with youth, adults, staff and parents.

5. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

6. Must possess or attain CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED Certifications within 30 days of hire. 

7. Must have at least 20 weeks experience in either a day camp or resident camp setting.

8. Person must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.

9. Must successfully complete YMCA New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.

10. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 



  • Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability and willingness to supervise and facilitate YMCA Camp ropes course, including all low ropes elements, and archery.
  • Must be able to bend and stoop occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
